“Looking ahead to 2015 and beyond, there is no question that we can achieve the overarching goal: we can put an end to poverty. In almost all instances, experience has demonstrated the validity of earlier agreements on the way forward; in other words, we know what to do. But it requires an unswerving, collective, long-term effort.” United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon

5th Festival 'Fight Poverty: Connect and Commit for MDGs'

End poverty by 2015.This is the historic promise 189 world leaders made at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000 when they agreed to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs set time bound targets for in reducing poverty, hunger, disease, lack of adequate shelter and exclusion, ensuring gender equality, health, education and environmental sustainability.

The Goals are ambitious but feasible. Fighting against poverty is an ethical, social, political and economic imperative. The world has enough money, resources and technology to end poverty forever. In envisioning a world that is free, secure and prosperous, the MDGs call for both partnership and sharing responsibility. No one government or institution can achieve human development alone, it is a joint commitment. It calls for a common platform for everyone to share knowledge, resources, expertise, and develop solutions.

The 5th Development Film Festival intends to bring the film makers together to showcase the stories of hope with their creative products made on the themes and issues related to the MDGs.
