Light a Home: Brighten the future of a family
In the modern world today where everything can be made available at the click of a mouse and high speed internet connectivity we have households without access to electricity. They are forced to depend on other alternatives such as kerosene that is not only costly but also hazardous to health. The cost and the procedures involved in getting access to electricity is a deterrent for many poor households.
Access to electricity would improve the educational status of children and health of the community. Their productivity and earning potential would increase and help release them from the clutches of poverty. It would improve their standard of living and open the doors to many opportunities in life.
The federations of Self help groups promoted by DHAN start with savings, credit and insurance services to their members and then address other needs of their members such as health, education, better housing etc. Each federation reaches out to about 3000 families. One of the major needs that has emerged and identified by the federation is the access to electrification.
Opportunity for Partnership
DHAN Foundation aims at ensuring access to electricity to the rural households in India in partnership with different stakeholders. Several federations have taken up electrification of member homes on the pilot basis. This has created a tremendous impact and created a demand for it among the members. Every federation has identified around 500 households to be electrified.
You can contribute Rs.5000 to electrify one home. You can contribute Rs.10, 000 to the electricity fund created at the federations which will be used to provide soft loans to the members to create access to electricity. This fund will be used over and again to benefit more members.
You and or your organization/team/your class alumni can sponsor access to electricity to a cluster of families or a federation.
You can be a DHAN Light a Home Goodwill Ambassador to spread the word about lighting a home to brighten the future of many families.
