Melavenkateswarapuram

Is a small village coming under Chennampatti panchayat. 105 families belonging to different caste, mostly backward class live here. Total population is 480.

Status of Drinking Water in the Village

In this village two Ooranis, one a drinking water oorani and another a traditional one for water harvesting exist. They had not used the drinking water oorani for the last 7 years due to its poor condition. The availability and quality of water in the well adjacent to the oorani depends on the storage of water in the oorani. The people are dependent on the oorani for all their drinking water and domestic water needs. As government's supply of water has not been regular and inadequate, now the villagers have come forward to repair and renovate the drinking water oorani.

Way Forward and Expected Benefits

Once this oorani is renovated, it will ensure good quality water supply not only to the village but also to the neighbouring villages even during summer months.
