NandigaonNandigaon is the habitation of Kammargaon Grama panchayat. This hamlet is 3 km away from Kammargaon and 19 km from mandal head quarters, Bejjur. This village has 35 house holds and total population of 150. Out of this 130are Scheduled Tribes and 20 are Scheduled Caste. This village is surrounded by hills. In this village 3 bore wells and one open well is there. Out of these only one bore well is in working condition. This village does not have any transportation facility but a cart track is there. One woman SHG and one primary school are there in the village. The occupation of the people is agriculture and collection of Non Timber Forest Products (NTFP).
Status of Drinking Water in the VillageNandigaon has one tank namely Pala kunta. For this tank, we have promoted Tank Association covering 25 ayacutdars. For this Tank Association, the bank account was also opened. This tank has one sluice and surplus weir. But both are in damaged condition. Water is leaking from sluice portion. The existing surplus weir is partially damaged.
Way Forward and Expected BenefitsBy replacing the leakaged sluice and repairing the surplus weir we can store the rain water up to April every year. This will facilitate them to irrigate the maximum ayacut of 40 Acres land and also they can take up the fish rearing activity. This tank ultimately improves the ground water level. Ground water level increase means it will helpful to get good yield in agriculture crop production. This will also recharge the wells existing in the village. The entire works proposed are done by the Tank association only. In the future, the tank will be maintained by this tank association. Before Construction
Villagers Speak Before Construction...“Due to damage of sluice and surplus weir the stored water goes off early and agricultural crops are not getting benefit out of it. Repair of sluic and surplus weir will help the farmers of tank command area in raising crops. ” Budget
