Kupalnatham

Karisalkulam tank comes under Kupalnatham village. It is located in Sedapatti block Madurai,Tamil nadu. People in Kupalnatham village are the migrants from Andhra Pradesh during Thirumalai Nayakkar period in Madurai. Kupalnatham tank was constructed during that period. Ayacut farmers are belonging from Devar, Nayakkar and SC community. Most of the farmers are marginal and small farmers.

Status of Drinking Water in the Village

Earlier surplus water from Jambalapuram tank was coming to Kupalnatham tank. Such kind of arrangement was there. But due to encroachment in supply channel, the surplus water is not reaching Kupalnatham tank. Leading channel from water spread area to sluice is not in good condition and water is not coming to sluice properly. Bond stone inside the sluice is broken. Due to this the water is not distributed to ayacut area.

Way Forward and Expected Benefits

Renovation of sluice leading channel will facilitate irrigation facility for 75 ayacut farmers and it will recharge 30 near by wells. Thirty five dry land farmers also will be indirectly benefitted.
