Update of DHAN PAN IIT water initiative - Aug 2009First of all THANKS to all the Alumni who participated wholeheartedly and with enthusiasm in the PanIIT Water Initiative not only with funds but for making the field visits as well. A special thanks to Rajendra Kondepati for putting up the details in the website and Anil Goteti for the keen involvement and continous followup regarding the progress in the oorani supported by Anand Charity. And of course Ram for making this initiative possible by championing it right from the idea stage to the completion with unflagging enthusiasm and dedication. We will be back soon with Edition 2 of the water initiative where we hope to get your continued support and inspire support from more alumni to make water available to communities in need. Last year around this time we were finalizing the projects and alumni interests in supporting it. The idea was to complete all of them before the December 2008 in time for showcasing this initiative at the the Pan IIT conference with the alumni as a meaningful way to get engaged in development work that will make a difference in the community. We were partly successful as we could not complete all of them. Today we have completed 7 of them and the last one Arasakulam will get completed in the next one week or so. Once again we thank for your Patience and Trust in us and the community for the completion of the work. Photo galleryPhotogallery

Due to various reasons the work could not proceed beyond a certain stage due to the ground realities in the village. So we got back the unspent amount from the village and used it to meet the gap in the funds needed for the completion of all the projects taken up in the Pan IIT water initiative. We had planned for taking up eight projects with an outlay of Rs.19.09 lakhs with a contribution of 13.91 lakhs by the alumni and the remaining contribution by the community. Finally we have completed (one of them in the final stages of completion) them with an outlay of Rs.18.66 lakhs with a contribution of Rs.13.71 lakhs from the alumni and the remaining Rs.4.95 lakhs from the community a little over the 25% contribution. We are finalizing the markers to be placed at each of the ooranis. We have made three designs for the markers given in English for your reference but will be made in the vernacular while placing it in the project site. Please choose the design you would like us to place at the site. We will ensure that they are placed at the site and send a picture of the same to you once it is done. The markers design
If we have left out anyone or any detail that needs to be shared. Please bring it to our notice we will rectify it immediately. And excuse us for any errors that may have crept in inadvertently. Thanks to the dedicated field teams and the village leaders who took the responsibility of completing the work. Looking forward to your continued support for the Second Edition of 100 water bodies spread over more states in India whose details we will be sharing before the next Pan IIT Alumni meet in October 2009.
