Eighth International Course on Advanced Reflective education and Training on “Community Based Development Finance"

December 1-14, 2010

The microfinance sector has grown by leaps and bounds and has acquired experience through innovations and experimentation. Two broader approaches have emerged: the enabling approach and the delivery approach. Different stakeholders of the microfinance (MF) sector have developed many hybrid models of implementing MF activities with sustainability focus. In India, Community Based Development Finance (CBMF) has gained popularity for its relevance to the democratic context. There are MF products and services made available to the poor communities at their doorsteps through context-based people organizations. In India, SHG-Federations, Co-operatives, and other form of community organizations are predominant community models, implementing financial products and services in a large scale. There are proven experiences by many grassroots NGOs, the Government, and other private organizations in implementing CBMF. India, being a country of diverse contexts, provides greater learning experiences to different stakeholders of the MF industry. The services are related to microfinance, micro insurance and micro enterprises being implemented through these community models.

Tata-Dhan Academy (TDA) is working towards strengthening community-based development initiatives by knowledge building and dissemination of the knowledge through research, training and consultancy. As a flagship course, the Academy offers a 12-day course on ART on three themes, (i) community-based microfinance, (ii) micro insurance and (iii) micro enterprise, every year during the first fortnight of December, for national and international MF practitioners, academicians, researchers, and funding organizations who facilitate community-based microfinance. This year, the Academy is offering its eighth International Course on ART on CBDF, micro insurance and micro enterprise.

The pedagogy includes case analysis, experience sharing by the experts, group exercises, field visits and panel workshops.
