Water for All: Making a Reality - People’s Efforts in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu – N. Karuppusamy & A. Gurunathan

An introduction to coastal Ramanathapuram district that faces severe water scarcity. The efforts by the government and DHAN Foundation are described. There is a case study of Puseri, a village in Mudhukulathur block, that faced serious drinking water problems and how it fared after an oorani was reclaimed in the village.

Community-based Integrated Watershed Management – Prof C. R. Shanmugam & N. Venkatesan

This paper was presented at a seminar on Assessment and Management of Water Resources by the Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists, Bhubaneswar, 2003. It outlines the different watershed projects in India. It also discusses the efforts by DHAN in watershed development in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh; its innovative approaches to motivate the people to ensure systematic planning, follow-up and sustainability of the assets.

Rainwater Harvesting in Rural Areas – Our Field Experiences – Prof C. R. Shanmugam

Presented at a workshop on 'Rain Water Harvesting' at the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, 2001. It discusses the merits and uses of different forms of rainwater harvesting and storage, and DHAN Foundation’s approach to rainwater harvesting in rural areas as well as its plans for the future.

Revival and Management of Traditional Water Harvesting Systems - Prof C. R. Shanmugam

Paper presented at a National Workshop on ‘Water Harvesting' with special reference to artificial recharge held at National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad in 2001. It discusses the uses of tank rehabilitation, importance of people’s participation in rehabilitation, components of tank rehabilitation and DHAN Foundation strategies.

Water Management and Water Managers in Traditional Tank Systems – R. Seenivasan

Highlights the role and function of traditional managers of tank systems; the present situation of neerkattis, tanks, crop production and the future need for good performance of tanks.
