Visit by Overseas Development Institute (ODI) team

Small Millets based Value Added Food Products

The Overseas Development Institute team has visited Scaling up Small Millet Post-harvest and Nutritious Food Products Project being implemented by DHAN Foundation with McGill University and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University during 26th October to 2nd November, 2017. This visit was part of the effort of IDRC to understand the contribution of Canadian International Food Security Research Fund (CIFSRF) projects to adoption of innovations, their impact on the food and nutrition security, incomes and agricultural productivity in sustainable farming systems of target farmers and consumers.

Mrs.Sharada Keats, Research Officer, Agricultural Development and Policy section from ODI, London and Dr.Jeyaranjan visited various project interventions across the value chain of small millets in Tamil Nadu namely, small millet farmers, Farmers Producer Company office bearers, equipment manufacturers, food enterprises, millet porridge vendors and women federations promoting consumption of small millets. They had detailed interaction with team of DHAN Foundation and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and visited the incubation centre located in Post Harvest Technology Centre. Interviews with key informants and focus group discussions were conducted to assess impact and to understand what has worked, for whom, how, and whether there are impacts on persons other than the intended beneficiaries of the innovations. A case study of the project would be prepared as an output of the visit.
