Ensuring Health through Curative Care

I am Janaki, Sixty years old a member of ThenMadurai Vattra Kalanjiam. I feel so proud to be a member of Periyakarupan Kalanjiam. Our group is eighteen years old. I always thank the god for introducing Kalanjiam in my life. I had served my community in several positions as their representative in group, cluster and federation level.

During Kalanjiam meeting, health staff always proposed to take health and life insurance but members are not really bothered about insurance. So as a Leader I took responsibility by enrolling insurance to lead by example.

My husband Meenakshi Sundaram who is 69 years old hard worker felt to have small tumour formation on his right-hand shoulder. He consumed tablets from local medical shops for temporary relief. This doesn’t give remedy. Along with the health staff, I visited SUHAM Hospital with my husband. After detailed analysis, they advised my husband to have an operation to stop further growth of a tumour. I don’t have the required funds to meet the cost of operation. Our health staff pointed out on the family health insurance scheme. The day before the operation insurance company rejected my insurance application. Then I sold my husband favourite ring for operation at the cost of Rs.5,000/-. Meantime health staff and DHAN worked with Insurances company by pointing the deficiencies in the claim rejection. Finally, I got Rs.13,500/- as an insurance claim. This helped me a lot, Then my Kalanjiam team members understood the need for Insurance. Once again thanks to Kalanjiam and team.
