Meeting Contingencies via Health insurance

I am Nagalashmi aged 34, studied up to the fifth standard. I am a member of Indra Kalanjiam in Palanganatham cluster of ThenMadurai Vattara Kalanjiam. My family is small, blessed with two sons and my husband is working as Mason. Fifteen years back I got a minor accident while travelling in an autorickshaw. Due to that, I used to get internal back pain and I think that as a casual pain. But whenever I work in tailoring with machines, I always got disturbed due to severe pain in my joints and backbone. Due to continuous pain one day I was not able to walk.

Then I consulted to L.P hospital they advised me to take a scan. I enquired about the tariff of scanning, they said around Rs. 5000/-. Then my husband came and consulted about the importance and need of scanning with doctors. They doubted I had suffered from a little displacement of backbone tissues and that displacement disturbs the nerves. After providing the scan report they advised me to undergo an urgent operation or else my legs, hands, nerves may get affected due to its stress. But for the operation, they asked us to pay Rs.60,000/- totally. Since the fee is too high I planned to quite the operation.

Then I visited Velammal hospital at Viraganoor after showing my scanning report, they advised me to stay in the hospital for more than a week. They tried physiotherapy at first, unfortunately, it doesn’t work. Then they suggested me to take operation and they referred us to pay Rs. 45,000/-. But I still find it too costly to afford. Finally, through my relation, I visited Life-care hospital and I consulted the doctor with reports they have also urged me to undergo an operation immediately. Here I got it negotiated for Rs.35,000/- and part of the expenses got covered by the health insurance I done through Kalanjiam. I paid Rs.23,000/- from my pocket. Through health insurance, I got a cashless claim of Rs.12,000/- for the operation. The health insurance coverage for Rs.450/- done through the federation has helped at the time of distress to overcome my financial strain by partly taking my out of pocket expenses.
